The US Ambassador to Georgia, John R. Bass, officially opened the USAID-funded Judicial Independence and Legal Empowerment Project (JILEP) on February 24 at the National Library of the Parliament in Tbilisi. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Konstantine Kublashvili, joined Ambassador Bass in addressing the gathering of the civil society community; members of academia, government and the general public at the event which formally launched the program and publically introduced the project’s plans and objectives. The event also included a unique activity for law students in attendance. Multiple slide shows displayed a rule of law quiz throughout the event. The students had the opportunity to complete the quiz before the event and the top two winners received prizes awarded by the Ambassador and Chief Justice.
